Synopsis

The episode starts off with Greg reciting his poem in front of the class. Too nervous about everyone watching him, he messes up, causing most of the class to laugh at him, despite the teacher’s efforts to calm them down and support him. Class ends, but just as Greg is relieved about not having to finish his poem, the teacher tells him that he can do another one tomorrow. He becomes upset, even with Connor and Amaya’s encouragement, and wishes that he wouldn’t have to recite any more poems.

Greg notices a small box walking towards him outside. Unbeknownst to him, it is a machine, which takes away his voice. He is concerned at first, but becomes excited that without his voice, he won’t have to recite his new poem tomorrow. He celebrates and motions to Connor and Amaya about the machine that took away his voice, which jumps out and leaves. Knowing that Romeo is responsible, the PJ Masks take the Cat-Car so they can quickly locate him and retrieve Gekko’s voice, which he isn’t really looking forward to.

The team tracks Romeo through Catboy’s Cat Ears until they find his lab and the voice box on top of it. While he admires a miniature statue of himself, they park behind the buildings and climb to the top. From there, Gekko sneaks up to the vehicle’s rooftop using his Super Lizard Grip and slowly reaches for the invention. Owlette shouts out to grab it, but it catches Romeo’s attention, and he drives away. Gekko falls on the sidewalk unharmed, though the team wonders why he didn’t grab the voice box, or why Romeo took his voice.

Suddenly, the team hears Gekko apparently insulting them. Thinking that he got his voice back, they get offended until they see Romeo driving by using his voice. They chase him as he continues using Gekko’s voice to insult them, much to his annoyance. He stops by the school, where he creates a conversation with himself about what his plan is: he is going to take their voices so they won’t be able to discuss how to stop him.

Catboy and Owlette drop off Gekko, then pull up in front of the lab. While they beg Romeo to give back his voice and compliment him, Gekko tries to grab the voice box again, but stops and gets flashbacks from earlier. Not wanting to go through something similar again, he backs off. Additionally, Romeo finds out it was a trick and drives off, flinging him onto the buildings. As he compliments himself using Gekko’s voice, the team goes after him while suspecting that Gekko’s behavior throughout the mission must be because of him not wanting to read his poem tomorrow.

Owlette flies out while Catboy and Gekko distract Romeo so she can grab the voice box. As they follow him, Catboy points out how more embarrassing it must be for Gekko to hear Romeo use his voice than to read a poem out loud, which he secretly disagrees on. The two vehicles stop by the museum where, after revving the engine, Catboy advances towards Romeo. Unfortunately, he figures it to be another trick, grabs Owlette with a mechanical arm, and places her in front of the Cat-Car.

The vehicle swerves out of the way and severely tips over as it screeches to a halt, making Catboy press the eject button. Gekko is shot out, although parachutes safely, and climbs up the lab to grab the voice box, but reconsiders when he sees Catboy helping Owlette up after she is placed down. This gives Romeo a chance to take their voices as well. Now that he has all of the team’s voices, he drives off with the intent of using them to frame the team for his crimes in addition to preventing them from discussing how to stop him.

Knowing that it’s his fault for hesitating each time he had a chance to grab the voice box, Gekko mimes to Catboy to approach the lab from behind so he can climb aboard. After Catboy does so, Gekko stops it with his Super Gekko Muscles. Romeo leaves the vehicle, thinking that something is wrong with the engine, while the team regroups, Catboy struggling to grab the voice box. Gekko proceeds to use his Super Strength when it suddenly runs around and falls off the lab in an attempt to escape. It zaps the team as they jump down; upon hearing the noise, Romeo grabs it.

The team speaks, but it reveals that they have each other’s voices. They use this to their advantage by moving around and shouting out to confuse Romeo. Gekko uses this opportunity through his Super Gekko Camouflage to take the voice box from him. He presses a button, and the machine zaps the voices back to their respectful owners. It then gets scared out of Gekko’s hands when Romeo shouts at the team to give it back and hits the road, causing it to take away his own voice when he tries to retrieve it. He is forced to retreat, leaving the PJ Masks to shout out their signature victory phrase.

The next day, Greg recites his new poem in front of the class focusing on how he is now confident after being initially afraid that he would be made fun of. Everyone applauds while at the same time feeling bad for laughing at him yesterday. Connor and Amaya commend him on a job well done, but without their voices. They reveal to him that they’re joking, and the three laugh together, ending the episode.

Moral/Lesson

  • You need to overcome your fear or embarrassment (don't be fearful).
  • Be positive.

Trivia

  • During the Narrator's introduction sequence, Gekko's voice was cleverly muted due to it being stolen by Romeo.
  • This is the first time Romeo gets zapped by his own inventions.
  • The episode also shows the strongest portrayal of Romeo's smug attitude on trying to look great on everything with compliments from other people.
  • This is one of the first episodes that aired on Disney XD during the January 2022 season. For the gallery of the Disney XD broadcast, go here.
  • Ross Hastings debuts as a writer in this episode.

Errors

  • In two scenes, Romeo is seen without any legs. These two scenes can be seen in the gallery page for this episode.
  • In the transformation sequence, as Gekko's voice was muted due to Romeo stealing it, Lionel's gurgling noise is muted by mistake. And this error would remain in later episodes starting with the next episode (except for "Gekko Saves Christmas") until the premiere of Season 2.
    • However, this error was fixed with a French voice actor voicing Lionel in the French version of the show.
  • Despite Gekko's voice being muted in the transformation sequence, his voice in the transformation sequence was unmuted in the French dub.
